Back in 1887, J.G. Patterson gave the Chadbourn Brothers land in his cornfield on Todd's Ferry Road (now Main Street) in exchange for a station on the railroad that they were building. Hence, Loris was born. By 1890 there were four stores and a post office at the crossroads and in 1902, the town was incorporated and became a trading center for the agriculture, lumber and turpentine industries of upper Horry County.
In 1997, the U.S. Census Bureau statistics declared Loris as the second fastest growing city in South Carolina.
