Loris Chamber of Commerce

Back in 1887, J.G. Patterson gave the Chadbourn Brothers land in his cornfield on Todd’s Ferry Road (now Main Street) in exchange for a station on the railroad that they were building. Hence, Loris was born. By 1890 there were four stores and a post office at the crossroads and in 1902, the town was incorporated and became a trading center for the agriculture, lumber and turpentine industries of upper Horry County.

In 1997, the U.S. Census Bureau statistics declared Loris as the second fastest growing city in South Carolina. It’s proximity to the Grand Strand Area and it’s friendly, small town atmosphere make it the city of choice for relocating families, small businesses and industry. Come visit us soon — we’re confident you’ll come to love Loris and maybe even make it home.

Wherever you’re from, you’re sure to enjoy the simple abundance that a small town has to offer. Loris continues to grow with a population of over 3,000 residents within the city limits, over 34,000 within a 15 mile radius and over 161,000 within a 30 mile radius. Horry County has over 144,000 residents.

The Loris Chamber of Commerce sponsors many events in Loris each year.  The most notable is the Loris Bog-Off, held the 3rd Saturday of each October, a festival celebrating Chicken Bog, a local favorite rice-and-chicken dish and a contest for the best chicken bog cook is featured each year.  Arts, crafts, food, a parade and entertainment make it an exciting event drawing visitors from all over the state, as well as out-of-state guests.

Loris residents are active in civic, service, voluntary clubs and agencies including: the Volunteer Fire Department, Rescue Squad, American Legion and Auxiliary, Masons and Eastern Star, Lions, Civitans, Loris Community Hospital Auxiliary, Garden Clubs, Music and Literary Club, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Senior Citizens Center and the Chamber of Commerce.
