WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Authorities hope a new sketch will help them find the person who assaulted a woman at a Wilmington gas station last weekend.

Police admit the new sketch looks similar to that of a man who stabbed and raped a woman in downtown Wilmington in July, but say it is not the same person.

They are investigating the two attacks as separate incidents.

Last Satruday, two different women were attacked in different locations of Wilmington.

According to police, an armed man approached a woman at the Citgo gas station on South College Road around 4:30 AM.

The man got in the woman's white Volkswagon Jetta and forced her to drive.  Moments later, the woman tried to crash her car at Hewett's Way off of Greenville Loop Road.

Then, the man beat her and tried to take her clothes off.  The woman managed to escaped, but he drove away in her Jetta.

About an hour and a half later, the same man allegedly tried to attack another woman near Holly Tree Road.

The jogger said she was attacked and almost sexually assaulted by a man driving a white car, which was later recovered by sheriff deputies in Onslow County.

She said she recognized the man from a suspect sketch of the man wanted for raping a woman in downtown Wilmington last month.

July 24, a 24-year-old woman was raped and stabbed several times in the courtyard of a church on Market and Third Streets.

The victim described her attacker as a young man between 19 and 22 years old of mixed race descent, perhaps hispanic.

She said he has black hair, brown eyes, and a brown complexion.  The attacker is believed to be about 180 lbs. with a stocky build and is anywhere from 5'8" to 5'10".

If you recognize the man in the sketch to the right, please call the Wilmington Police Department, 910-343-3600.
