WILMINGTON -- In the final month before the big switch, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin says the government is taking new steps to make sure everyone in Wilmington is ready.
He says the agency that issues these credit-card like coupons is now looking for our zip codes on applications.
Requests for coupons from our zip codes will get pushed ahead of those coming in from TV viewers in the rest of the country.
The coupons are for $40 off the price of a converter box, and the government has been criticized for issuing them too slowly.
In other respects, Martin believes the test market transition to digital broadcasting is going smoothly.
Now, Martin says the task is making sure those who have ignored the September 8 deadline realize time is running out to get ready.
