Many families are without phones and some even without power due to storm damage. It really depends on where you were Wednesday afternoon....some places had heavy rain, others even saw hail. A transformer fire off North Kerr Avenue in Wilmington...A telephone pole was struck by lightning...knocking down phone lines for many Wilmington residents.
The lightning, thunder, and heavy rain filled the sky for most of the afternoon, keeping many people inside. But with the lightning setting off one alarm after another, firefighters raced from house to house, building to building. Residents reported their houses had been hit by lightning...but there were no reports of major structural damage. Traffic lights went dark at several major intersections, tieing up traffic just before the afternoon commute started.
