My Turn, Your Turn: Little League Baseball

WILMINGTON -- I have some great childhood memories associated with little league baseball.  Talk to any guy my age who played the game - and he'll have a story or two.  So for me it was easy to get excited last week as a local team was advancing in the state tournament.

Meet the Myrtle Grove Optimist All-Stars.  These pictures were taken as the team captured the North Carolina State championship. They've earned a spot in the Southeast Regional in Gulfport, Florida.  And if they win there- it's on to Williamsport, Pennsylvania and the Little League World Series.

In part, this commentary is written in the hopes this entire community will rally around these kids.  They need to know we're rooting for them.

But I have another purpose. Because no matter what happens, it is my sincere hope this team realizes just how special this experience is. Right now they are creating memories that will last a lifetime. So I hope they take it all in, the grass, the grandstands, the cheering parents, the excitement of it all.

Sadly- for some of them - a big part of childhood is about to end.  But they are going out in style -and they've already earned the title of champions.

That's my turn.  Now it's your turn.  To comment on this segment or anything else, email me, here.
