RALEIGH -- Funeral services took place Tuesday for former North Carolina Senator Jesse Helms.
Hundreds paid their respects at a viewing Monday for the senator who died July 4 at the age of 86.
He served five terms in the senate, representing North Carolina from 1973 to 2003.
Governor Mike Easley ordered all North Carolina state flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset Tuesday.
Funeral services will began at 2:00 at Hayes-Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh.
