WILMINGTON -- It's taken me a long time, but I've finally figured out who's to blame for the high gas prices. You think I am going to say OPEC - or the Saudi's - or maybe the American oil companies.
No. It's not them. You want to know where your anger should really be directed. Well send it my way. That's right - me. I Gary McNair am at fault for the high gas prices.
I really should have known better. The signs were all around me. I have vivid memories of sitting in gas lines in 1973. Every president and politician of the last 40 years has warned me about my dependence on foreign oil. But I really didn't bother to listen. I even laughed at people in the 80's when they put solar panels on their home. Meanwhile I bought an SUV - and then another - and another one after that. I am now on my fourth.
I didn't conserve at home either. I' m prone to leaving the lights on and running the air conditioner lower than it really needs to be. Oh I knew eventually it would all come to a head. But I never thought it would be in my lifetime. I thought I'd leave that to future generations to deal with.
Well - I am paying attention now. And I am going to refine my ways - change my crude attitude. Hopefully I've learned my lesson this time. Of course, we'll find out for sure if the prices go back down.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
