My Turn, Your Turn: Bruce Cavenaugh

WILMINGTON -- I just want to congratulate one of our advertisers - Bruce Cavenaugh. For the last 4 years he's donated vehicles for the big charity raffle. Up to one hundred local charities benefit from this act of kindness every year.

I should point out this is a million dollar act of kindness.  You see, when the sales are officially counted this year, the Bruce Cavenaugh raffles will surpass the one million dollar mark.  And all that money goes to the organizations that sold the tickets.

If you ask Bruce Cavenaugh about this - and we have- he is quick to give the credit to the volunteers and all the charities who hit the pavement to sell the tickets. He points out that they are investing something much more valuable - their time.

To be sure, what they do is an act of love for the organizations they care so much about.  Still, we're not going to let him pass the buck so quickly.

If you ever meet Bruce Cavenaugh, one thing will be clear; this concept that he and his wife came up with 4 years ago is not a P.R. gimmick.  Instead it is the result of someone who is a Wilmington native wanting to give back to his community and hopefully make a difference.

And giving back - whether it's time or cars - deserves a big pat on the back.  In fact this year Bruce deserves a million of them.

That's my turn.  Now it's your turn.  To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at
