Here's a case of some good news and not so good news. In a recent poll, 89% of the television viewers in the Wilmington market said they have heard of the "Big Switch" to digital.
That is good news, and it's important because this television market will be the first in the nation to make the transition.
That same survey that gave us such high marks for being in the know also provided us with some very sobering information. Only 18% of Wilmington viewers know the switch is going to occur on September 8.
We know this is confusing, and you're likely to be hearing a lot more from the national media on this topic. It's probably best to ignore them, at least the part about the date. Remember they are talking to the rest of the nation, not the Cape Fear area.
To help you out we started a countdown clock. You can see it on all WECT newscasts. Day-by-day it will be a friendly reminder that we all need to get ready for this new age in broadcasting.
We're off to a great start. 89% awareness is terrific. Now we just have to bring that 18% up a little, and I know we will.
