Wilmington residents celebrate West Virginia

NEW HANOVER COUNTY -- Some Wilmington residents will be celebrating West Virginia roots this weekend.

Hundreds of people who have relocated from West Virginia will gather to honor their homeland.

The 16th annual celebration corresponds with the mountain state's birth date of June 20, which was declared during the Civil War.

"So many here we decided to get together for a little reunion. We are proud of where we are from, and glad to get together once a year," said West Virginian Tom McNeal.

If you are from West Virginia, have ever visited, or just want to learn more about the state, join others at the celebration Saturday at the Winter Park Baptist Church.

Bring a dish to share and meet some fellow West Virginians.
