Lifewatch: Swimming pool hygiene

DETROIT -- There could be a hidden danger that may be lurking in your pool water.

Across metro Detroit, pool owners are getting ready for swim season, but experts have a warning about a chlorine-resistant parasite called Cryptosporidiosis, or Crypto.

Crypto can cause serious illness with symptoms like diarrhea, stomach cramps, dehydration, nausea, vomiting, and fever.

To reduce the risk of crypto infection, parents should warn kids not to swallow pool water.

Practicing good hygiene can also reduce the risk of infection.  Taking a shower before and after swimming are suggested.
