Big Switch Minute: FCC comes to Wilmington

WILMINGTON -- Some of the biggest names in the big switch are headed to Wilmington to answer some questions.

Kevin Martin is one of the most powerful men in broadcasting.  He is the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.

Michael Copps is one of the FCC Commissioners and the driving force behind the decision to turn Wilmington into the nation's digital TV test market.

Anthony Wilhelm is another top federal official.  He is directing the TV converter box program for the Department of Commerce.

Wilmington's Mayor Bill Saffo is also on the agenda at the first FCC Town Hall meeting on the digital transition.

The meeting is Tuesday, May 27 at the UNCW Executive Development Center and is open to the public.

The building is located on Military Cutoff Road, next to the public library.  The event runs from 4-6 p.m., and there will be time for you to ask questions.

Based on the calls and emails WECT has received, many of the questions have to do with the transition coming during hurricane season.  The issues raised by that concern are on the agenda.
