WILMINGTON -- North Carolina has a long history of being first. Just look at our license's plate; first in flight. Well, we're about to be first in something almost just as big.
You and I are taking part in the most dynamic transformation of television since color was introduced in the late 50s. It's called digital TV and it has many benefits the old technology just doesn't have.
This transformation had its genesis about 25 years ago. For the rest of the country the finish line will be crossed next year. They will be following our lead. Here in the Wilmington area the change will take place on September 8th.
Are you ready? If you receive our station from a cable or satellite provider, the answer is yes. If you are picking our signal up over the air with a new digital television, you're okay too. If you have a digital to analog converter box to go with that old TV, you've got nothing to worry about. But many of you are not ready...and to find out if you're in that group you may want to log on to wect.com or call us. We'll be glad to help.
Being first is not easy and change can be painful. I've been told the only living being that looks forward to change is a baby needing a clean diaper. We'll, just like that baby, we may not enjoy the changing process. But we're going to feel good and be happy with the benefits once it's finally over.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
