WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH -- Construction work could affect your drive to and from Wrightsville Beach.
One westbound lane of the Wrightsville Beach Bridge will be shut down from 9:00 tonight until 6:00 tomorrow morning.
Officials say this is just routine maintenance and is not connected to heat related issues that caused the bridge to expand over the weekend.
In May the DOT said, marine borers have eaten through nearly a dozen wood pilings that support the Wrightsville Beach drawbridge.
The two bridges that lay over Banks Channel also need repair. Their damages are blamed on watercraft ocean spray.
The Town of Wrightsville Beach has little involvement in the project, because all three bridges are on state-funded roads.
Regardless, Wrightsville Beach Town Manager, Bob Simpson said he will be happy to work with the DOT to keep residents safe.
