A little over four months ago, the former General Manager of WECT, Karl Davis, was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. I never knew him - but I've learned he was a wonderful man. I know he will be sorely missed by family, friends, coworkers and the citizens of the Wilmington area. I honor him for all he's done for this television station and this community.
That being said - I'm thrilled to be here. It's funny how things turn out. I may be a new face in town, but I knew good things about this community before I ever got this job. You should know that I fell in love with the Wilmington area about seven years ago.
In 2001, my wife, Connie, and I came to Wilmington to help our son get settled for his first semester of college. At the time we were living in Kansas. We fell in love with this place. I had high hopes he'd settle here and we'd have a good reason to come and visit - frequently.
Well we all know things don't always work out the way you want. Every now and then they even get better. Our son doesn't live here anymore. But we do. The shoe is on the other foot and he'll be the one visiting now. Plus, there is a lot I look forward to; living near the beach, the mild winters, and working with great people at this station and in the community.
To be honest, I'm not really comfortable on this side of the camera. I'm much more at ease behind the scenes. But I value this type of dialogue as important and necessary. So I want your help. I'm going to tell you what I think and I want to know what's on your mind as well. Don't hold back and we'll all benefit from the exchange.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at email@example.com.
