OAK ISLAND -- The Coast Guard in Oak Island hosted its third annual Public Safety Day.
Helicopters, fire engines, and military boats were just a few sights at the Coast Guard station in Oak Island.
Children and adults were able to board and see several helicopters, including a Black Hawk.
The SABLE Helicopter and New Hanover Regional Medical Center's chopper were also on display.
According to Coast Guard members, this event is an opportunity to learn about both law enforcement and safety.
"It's just to get our face out in the public and do a little boating safety education and gives something for them to come down and see," said US Coast Guard member Brennan Reeves.
Coast Guard officials said the event should take place again in May 2009.
