No Charges Filed Against Wilmington Police Officer

WILMINGTON -- No criminal charges will be filed against a Wilmington police officer involved in a shooting January 17, 2008.

Officer Andrew Lazzaro shot Joseph William Inman after police invaded an illegal video gaming establishment at the Two Trees Pool and Spa store on South Kerr Avenue.

Inman was shot after pointing a loaded gun at Officer Lazzaro.

Inman remains in the county jail and has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.  Inman is further charged with assault by pointing a firearm on a law enforcement officer and running an illegal game establishment.

Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous says Officer Lazzaro was doing everything he was trained to do.

Officer Lazzaro has been on a paid administrative leave since the incident.  Chief Evangelous says he will return to work Saturday.

No court date has been set for Inman.
