NEW HANOVER COUNTY -- Some River Road residents are concerned about the plans to relocate River Road.
Signs with the slogan "Save River Road" are sprouting up all along streets in neighborhoods affected by the plan to move the road inland.
Developers want the road moved to make way for riverfront homes.
The group behind the signs says the changes still need final approval from the state, and they've launched a petition drive to make sure that doesn't happen.
However, some residents look at the land that's already been cleared and that it's too late.
"Absolutely, look at that. They already have so much money invested in that what are they going to do now? They're not going to stop, its going to go up no matter how many people sign the petition," said Lanie Senname, Silva Terra resident.
The group behind the petition drive is hoping to gather 5,000 signatures. Right now, the group has about 750 names on the petition.
