SURF CITY -- No matter the weather for New Year's Day, thousands of people are planning to celebrate the start of 2008 by heading to Surf City to take a dip in the ocean.
The annual "Dolphin Dip Extravaganza" is held New Year's Day in Surf City. The event raises money for the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center.
At noon on New Years Day, the crowd runs into the ocean for a quick dip. Last year they event had over 1,500 people participate and donated $7,500 for Hospice.
Organizers are expecting about 3,000 people this year.
The idea is, if you can swim in the cold ocean on New Year's Day, it makes those resolutions seem much more attainable.
