Tree of Life and Candlelight Vigil

WILMINGTON -- Justice In Motion, in conjunction with the Governors Highway Safety Program, is hosting the annual Tree of Life and Candlelight Vigil on Friday, November 30 at 6 p.m. at Battleship Park.

The Tree of Life features 1,559 white lights on the tree to signify those lives lost in traffic accidents on the roads of North Carolina in 2006. There are also 379 lights to represent the number of people who died as a result of drunk driving.

The Candlelight Vigil will remember all who died.

New Hanover County Law Enforcement Agencies will be honored for their commitment and dedication to stopping drunk driving.  WECT's Vice President and General Manager, Karl Davis, Karl Davis, emcee the ceremonies and Bert Williams will be the Keynote Speaker.

The public is invited to attend and show their support.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2006, there were 13,470 fatalities due to drunk driving.
