WILMINGTON -- A new mutual aid agreement between the Wilmington Police Department and the New Hanover County's Sheriff's Department has been reached.
The agreement was reached earlier this month and has been signed by Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous and New Hanover County Sheriff Sidney Causey.
Under the new deal, the two departments will help each other in times of need.
The agreement is similar to a previous agreement that ended earlier this year.
After the last agreement ended, Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo urged the two departments to work out another deal.
New Hanover County Chief Deputy Edward McMahon says he is pleased the two departments reached a compromise.
Mayor Bill Saffo told WECT on Wednesday that he is thrilled the two sides worked out a deal which makes Wilmington a safer place to live.
