Strict Sanctions on Dangerous Dogs

BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- Brunswick County health officials may pass stricter sanctions on dangerous dogs.

The ordinance, which is expected to be drafted at an August 13th meeting, will state that animal control can take possession of dangerous dogs from owners who violate guidelines. The dog may even be euthanized if a violation occurs.

Dog owners must keep their dangerous animal in a closed off area and may not let them loose.

Last year in Brunswick County, two pit bulls attacked and killed another women's dog.

Brunswick County Deputy Health Director, Fred Michael, says the ordinance would help people and other animals stay safe.

If passed, the ordinance would resemble the one found in New Hanover County.
