WILMINGTON -- Marijuana is more potent than ever before, and that's leading to more young adults going into treatment and counseling.
Recent studies show the amount of THC, the pshycoactive ingredient in marijuana, is double what it was 30 years ago.
Those at the Coastal Horizons Center in Wilmington say the majority of teens that arrive for substance abuse counseling are there because of marijuana addiction.
"Often when people hear that a drug is stronger, they'll want to try it. So parents and the community need to pay attention to that, not to talk about the drug and glorify it, but that's the case with alcohol, marijuana, heroin, but there is treatment available for that," said Pamela Morrison.
Counselors are encouraging parents to talk to their kids about drugs and understand the seriousness of marijuana, especially now that it is more potent.
