CHAPEL HILL -- The man accused of using his SUC to run down students at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill has been ruled mentally fit to stand trial.

A state psychiatrist made the ruling Wednesday.

Mohammed Taheri-Azar faces nine counts each of attempted murder and assault in connection with the March 2006 attack in the area of campus known as "The Pit."

Police say Taheri-Azar confessed to the incident, saying his actions were to avenge U.S. treatment of Muslims around the world.
