BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- State and federal investigators served subpoenas to Sheriff Ron Hewett and a group of Brunswick County Sheriff's deputies Thursday.
Hewett released a statement about the subpoenas Thursday afternoon.
"I do not know what the focus of this investigation is at this time," the statement reads. "I intend to cooperate fully with this investigation. I have not been accused of, nor charged with, any wrongdoing."

The subpoenas require the deputies to provide pay records and other unknown records for a federal grand jury investigation. No criminal charges have been filed.
WECT talked with Brunswick, Bladen, Columbus District Attorney Rex Gore about the situation. He said:
"I am satisfied that we are not looking at a police corruption situation, and there is no reason to believe the citizens of Brunswick County are in jeopardy because the deputies would not be able to do their jobs."
