Brunswick Co. Reinstates Burn Ban

BRUNSWICK CO. -- A burn ban is back in effect in Brunswick County. Friday afternoon, Fire Marshal Scott Garner released this news release:

Due to the lack of rain and the resulting dry, hazardous burning conditions, Brunswick County Fire Marshal Scott Garner has reinstituted the burning ban in Brunswick County and asked that citizens refrain from outdoor burning until further notice. The countywide burning ban prohibits open burning within 100 feet of occupied dwellings.

This burning ban is being re-enacted with the hope of preventing large fires such as those the region has experienced in the recent days. Although this ban does not apply to recreational fires such as charcoal or propane grilling, citizens are urged to be extremely cautious with any type of outdoor fire. Citizens are also advised to be cautious when smoking outdoors, and to dispose of cigarettes in the proper manner.

The National Weather Service is not forecasting any significant rainfall over the next week. This weekend is expected to be breezy and dry, and the fire danger will remain high.
