I need you to indulge me for just a minute; I'm about to sound like a bragging parent.
In our New Year commentary we asked everyone, including the employees here at WECT and WSFX, to volunteer their time and talent in some form of community service this year. Well, I couldn't be prouder of how they've responded.
They participated in the "Polar Plunge" for Special Olympics; worked on the American Heart Association's fundraiser, the "Heart Ball"; performed in the Carousel Center's "Making Legends Local" show; raised money and walked for the March of Dimes' "Walk America", the Carolina Canines "Walk for Those Who Can't", the American Cancer Society's "Relays for Life", and the "Walk to Defeat ALS". They gave blood in our Red Cross Blood Drive and worked on a project for last weekend's Hands on Wilmington.
And I'm just scratching the surface here because I know station employees volunteer in their schools, churches, scouting organizations and other community groups, as do thousands of you; and we're all richer for the experience. So we're doing our part, as individuals and stations to support community organizations; and we'll continue to be generous with our time and talents because there's so much that needs to be done.
How about you? Have you risen to the challenge yet? If each and every one of us did just one thing this year to make our communities better places to live and work, what an incredible year we'd have in our part of the world.
