WILMINGTON -- Emergency workers will soon have a new place to prepare for the worst.
Cape Fear Community College officials broke ground Friday on a new training center designed to give emergency workers hands-on experience with disaster scenarios. It includes a burn-proof building where firefighters can train.
"Having a facility dedicated to do the training allows us an opportunity to practice more hands- on training instead of sitting in a classrooms trying to visualize through video projects or stuff like that," said New Hanover County Fire Chief Donnie Hall.
Construction is expected to be complete next spring.
