No matter where you turn these days, it seems everyone's talking about "going green". Well, whether you believe in global warming or not, doing things to benefit our environment IS a good idea.
An organization in Wilmington can help you do just that -- The Cape Fear Breeze. A joint initiative of the City of Wilmington and the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the Breeze provides information and assistance with transportation alternatives in our area. On their Web site, www.capefearbreeze.com you'll learn about transportation choices in our area and the benefits of using them; receive instant personalized matching to car pool and biking partners; and view bus information.
Their Way2Go Club provides registered users with rewards from the Breeze and participating employers. And they offer services for employers, like helping to add transportation benefits for employee compensation packages and addressing traffic or parking issues at work sites.
In April, The Cape Fear Breeze is sponsoring a commuter challenge contest called "Be A Super Hero -- Take The Challenge". The contest encourages employers, employees and the general public to take advantage of alternate methods of transportation, have fun, win prizes and help the environment at the same time.
You can register at their kick-off this Thursday night at 6:30 in the City Council chambers, or go to their Web site for more information.
Even if you're not able to participate in the contest, you should learn more about the alternative transportation options that make our area an even better place to live. That's what we think. Tell us what you think.
