NEW HANOVER COUNTY -- Clover fields will soon turn to softball fields.
Authorities from the City of Wilmington and New Hanover County made the official announcement of their purchase of land to be turned into a softball/baseball complex.
Local leaders also unveiled the proposed site plan for the park Friday.
The land is sandwiched between Laney High School and U.S. 40 off Murrayville Road.
Bond referendum funds will pay for the construction of five ballfields, along with volleyball and tennis courts on the site.
It will be known as Olsen Park, for the family that sold the land.
