WILMINGTON -- Crowds camped out outside the doors of the Port City's newest restaurant Monday, in hopes of tasting some of that famous salad and breadsticks.
Surveys have consistently indicated local diners were hungry for an Olive Garden, but the chain restaurant was reluctant to build in Wilmington. Developers say it took a lot of hard work to get the eatery here, but the crowds indicated the restaurant won't have trouble filling the tables.
The restaurant is on Market Street, near the intersection with College Road. Hungry diners lined up outside the new eatery hours before the scheduled opening -- so many that Olive Garden officials decided to open a few minutes early.
The chain has nearly 600 restaurants in the United States and Canada.
