U.S. Airways Withdraws Takeover Bid

WILMINGTON - Wilmington International Airport will continue to have two air carriers, at least for now.

U.S. Airways has withdrawn its hostile bid to buy Delta Airlines.

The move comes after an official creditors committee said it would support Delta's plan to emerge from bankruptcy as a stand-alone carrier.

U.S. Airways had originally offered to buy out Delta for $8.5 billion. That offer was later bumped up to $10.2 billion.

Delta and U.S. Airways both fly out of ILM.
