Woman Sentenced for Horse Abuse

COLUMBUS COUNTY -- It's a first of its kind sentence in Columbus County. A woman has been punished for abusing a horse.

Over the summer, WECT reported a story about Lacey, a horse suffering from malnutrition and partial blindness.

Now, Andrea Dudney, Lacey's former owner, is on probation for the next two years. Until then, she won't be able to own another horse. Dudney has also been ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution to the Rocky Point Animal Hospital.

This is the first time anyone has been prosecuted in Columbus County for horse abuse.

For now Lacey is in the care of animal cruelty investigator Lisa Hartman.
