-- Police found a dead body Monday morning in the parking lot of Hanover Center on Oleander Drive.
Detectives say they don't have any good leads as to who murdered 27-year-old Jimmy Lewis, but they're hoping surveillance video from businesses located around the crime scene may help them track down the killer.
Lewis was found shot to death inside his 1986 Buick. The car was parked in the Books-a-Million parking lot near the RBC Centura Bank. Sources inside law enforcement tell WECT his foot was on the brake, and the car was in drive.
Detectives say the shooting happened sometime between midnight and 7:00 a.m. We've been told Lewis made a bank transaction at the RBC Centura early Monday morning.
Investigators say they're going through surveillance video from the bank, but they're also taking a look at surveillance video from Hanover Center businesses that are open 24 hours, such as the Harris Teeter.
"This individual may have been out shopping, and if so, they may have been caught on interior video tape entering a business. You want to see if they were traveling by themselves or not. Or if they weren't traveling by themselves, locating anyone that might have been with them," said Officer Warren Kennedy with the Wilmington Police Department.
Lewis does have a criminal history involving drug convictions. He was released from the New Hanover County Jail last month, but police won't say if they think the murder is drug related.
