COLUMBUS CO. -- Two months after one of the deadliest storms in its history, Columbus County still doesn't have a director of emergency services.
Deputy Director Kay Worley oversaw the county's response to the Riegelwood tornado. She's been running the department for four months, and some residents are frustrated that county leaders are taking so long to fill the post on a permanent basis.
Worley is one of the candidates to take the place of Ronnie Hayes. The county's emergency planning committee is urging the county commissioners and manager to make a permanent hire.
