World War II Plane in Wilmington

WILMINGTON -- The spirit of North Carolina is an authentic A-26 Bomber Plane built in 1944.

It's flown through World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, and even had a brief stint as an illegal drug carting plane before flying high over southeastern North Carolina.

The plane's owner, a local retired pilot, says he bought it as a labor of love, and to own a piece of history.

The plane's historian, also a crew member, says the spirit of North Carolina should make everyone in Wilmington proud.
