DA Waits to Present Strickland Case

WILMINGTON -- New Hanover County District Attorney Ben David says he's not planning to present the Peyton Strickland case to a grand jury on Monday. This marks the third week in a row, but this time he's explaining why.

David says the SBI's report on the investigation of the shooting death of 18-year-old Peyton Strickland is not complete. He's waiting until it's turned over to him before the next step is taken in the case.

David says he wants Chris Long's lawyer to be able to go over the report before David presents the case to a grand jury.

Long is a former New Hanover County sheriff's deputy who shot and killed Strickland at his home while serving an arrest and search warrant.

David says the case will not be presented to a grand jury on Monday, and there's a good chance it won't be heard the following week either.
