WHITEVILLE -- Lekidria Strickland's body was found on her 14th birthday on April 28, 2005.

Detectives believe she was hit by a vehicle the day before, but they've never been able to determine exactly what happened or who is responsible.

Her body was found in the woods off Carver Moore Road near the Columbus-Bladen County line.

"Her and her brother left home earlier that day because they got out of school early. They went to play ball with friends. Later on that afternoon, around 5:30, 6:00, the brother came back, but she didn't," said Lekidria's mother, Lorraine Strickland.

Now the two-year anniversary of Lekidria's death is coming up, and her mother is hoping for closure.

"What happened to this beautiful girl?" Lorraine Strickland said. "I wanna know what happened. Who killed her?"

The Columbus County Sheriff's Office is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest. Call (910) 642-6551 with any information.
