Catching Tuna Means Catching Big Bucks

SOUTHPORT -- It was a busy day in Southport for fishermen catching Bluefin tuna, and all the big catches mean big bucks.

The largest tuna reeled in Thursday was close to eight feet long and weighed more than 300 pounds.

For area fishermen, the Bluefin tuna season gets them through the lean winter months, as the fish can often fetch up to $30 a pound in Japan.

The commercial Bluefin tuna season ends January 31.
