Flu Shots in Surplus this Season

Despite recent mild weather, flu season is right around the corner and health officials are encouraging people to get vaccinated.

Unlike recent years, this season there's actually a surplus of flu shots. The majority of the shots came in after Thanksgiving.

Experts say there's still time to get vaccinated before the peak season, and you should not base your decision on whether to get the shot because of last year's flu season.

"Last year was mild. So maybe people aren't worried about it this year, and that's the wrong approach to take. Anyone who thinks they need the flu vaccine should get it," says Dale Key, an administrator at Medac.

Workers at the New Hanover County Health Department say they have plenty of flu shots to go around.
