PENDER COUNTY --
The real estate company overseeing a new home site in Hampstead says it had no knowledge of the intentional torching of a historic home there.
The Belvidere Plantation Home off Sloop Point Road was completely destroyed by local fire departments as part of a training exercise. The developer OK'd the training mission.
Virginia Bay Platinum Properties is the broker for the site where the historic home once stood. The company says they're just the listing agent and had no control over the home's fate.
Virginia Bay told WECT when they last checked in with the developer, the home was being worked on, but not suitable for living.
Residents and local historians are upset that more wasn't done to preserve what they say was a piece of history.
