Ham Radio Celebrates Special Anniversary

WILMINGTON -- Amateur radio operators in the Wilmington area are joining with people around the world to mark a special anniversary.

A 24 hour celebration of the first voice sent over the radio begins at 8:00 Friday evening. 2006 is the 100 year anniversary of that event.

Ham radio operators say the special event is a time to take stock of how far the technology has come and how important it remains.

If you want to take part in the celebration, but don't have a ham radio, you can still check out the festivities at www.hello-radio.org.
