PENDER COUNTY -- A home more than two centuries old was burned in a fire department training exercise.
The Belvidere Plantation Home once sat on land off Sloop Point Road. The home had been sold to Virginia Bay Platinum Properties.
The developer had the Sloop Point Fire Department set the home on fire for training.
Residents and local historians are upset that more wasn't done to preserve what they say was a piece of history.
The home was also known as the Merrick-Nixon house and was more than 200 years old. It was listed on the National Register of historic places.
