PENDER COUNTY -- After three days, a portion of Holly Shelter Road at Blue Clay Road in Pender County is back open, after almost a foot of water covered a portion of the street.
Department of Transportation officials say the road unexpectedly flooded because beavers blocked off the pipes that flow underneath the road.
Crews were out digging up the beavers' work Thursday and getting the water between the two swamps flowing again.
They say this happens often, and every time they fix it it's only a matter of time before the beavers are back at it again.
