Officers Urge Women to Keep Eye on Purses

-- The holiday shopping rush is on, and women are being urged to keep a close eye on their purses. With so many people in the malls and stores this time of year, it's easy for anyone to take off with a purse without anyone noticing.

Officials say purses are usually taken right out of the shopping cart, when the shopper turns their attention to the merchandise.

The good news is, police officers say it's easy to prevent thefts.

"Make sure you keep your pocketbook with you at all times, and think about what's in there. Don't carry all your credit cards with you," says Officer Craig Melville with the Wilmington Police Department.

Officer Melville also says it's important to keep a record of all your credit card numbers in a safe place, so you can cancel them quickly if they are stolen.
