New Police Headquarters in Wilmington Opens

WILMINGTON -- The Wilmington Police Department will be coming home to a new building in the new year.

A ribbon cutting for the new headquarters Monday afternoon gave the public a chance to see the new facility for the first time.

The new building is located on Bess Street and moves the department from their old building on Red Cross Street. They had been stationed there since 1962.

Some of the features include a forensics lab, training labs, sound-proof interview rooms, and a fitness center.

Chief Ralph Evangelous says the new facility will aid the department in recruitment and morale.

The new facility comes at a price tag of $24 million, which is about $100,000 under the budget set for the project.
