Advice to Protect Homes Against the Cold

-- It's not too late to take a couple of precautions against the cold weather.

The experts at a plumbing supply company in Wilmington say it's smart to wrap pipes in your garage or attic with an inch or so of insulation. They also suggest disconnecting your garden hose from the spicket. That could also help keep your pipes from freezing.

"When fifty feet of hose freezes in your front yard, then you've got a hydraulic pressure that can build up into the house and break your plumbing," says Chick Coleman.

Coleman says if you live in an apartment you fair better in cold weather sitations. Regulation codes require exposed pipes in complexes to be insulated.
