WILMINGTON -- The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Diligence pulled out of port Tuesday morning.
Family members waved good-bye as the boat chugged down the Cape Fear River.
The Diligence is headed to the coast of South America. In the past the crew has been busy seizing illegal drugs and performing search and rescues.
The crew is scheduled to return to Wilmington in February.
Officers put the 11-year-old in cuffs, patted her down and put her in the back of a cop car as her mother pleaded with police not to take her daughter.
