New DWI Laws Take Effect

WILMINGTON -- A new stricter DWI law is going into effect, and some people are surprised about some of the statutes under the law.

If you're under 21, you can now get a ticket if you have consumed alcohol.

People have said they thought that was already the law, but the previous law only allowed for a ticket for possession of alcohol.

The law also bans riding a bicycle or lawn mower after drinking. Doing so could mean a DWI.

Under the new law, drivers will go to prison if they drive drunk and cause serious injury to someone else -- even if it's their first time getting a DWI.
